Up Past Queens

2018 Queen

Elizabeth Douglas

I grew up in Saint Maryís, IA but I currently reside in Des Moines, IA.  I work as a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, IA.  I graduated with my Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Mercy College of Health Sciences in 2017.  During my time in college, I was involved in Mercy College Association of Nursing Students and Love Your Melon.  I spent much of my time at Mercy College volunteering at a variety of places in the Des Moines metro area, many of which the Friendly Sons are also affiliated with.  I deeply admire what the Friendly Sonís do to support our community, through both volunteering and donations.  My great great great grandfather, Peter OíConnor, traveled to the United States from County Cork, Ireland.  I currently have family in both Melrose and Georgetown so I canít pick a side in that rivalry.  I applied to be the FSOSPís Queen to become more involved in my Irish heritage and to become more involved in the community.  I also knew it would make my Grandma ďKayĒ, Mary Kathleen Schmid (Mahoney), very proud.  She has since has passed away, on 5/31/2018, but Iím proud to honor my heritage in celebration of her memory.  In my free time, I enjoy crafting, bicycling, spending time with my family and friends, and playing with my dog (Gizmo) and cat (Peanut).

Queen's presence is requested at ALL Friendly Sons of St. Patrick events held throughout the year.

The St. Patrick's Day Parade, St. Patrick's 5K / 10K Run, Irish Open disc golf, Leprechaun Golf Open, and Halfway to St. Patrick's Day Celebration & Bike Ride
